Mārīci
Mārīci means "ray of light" in Sanskrit. This term represents a deeper spiritual meaning of light, knowledge, and enlightenment, used in various cultural and religious contexts. In Buddhism, Mārīci is considered the goddess of light and a protector. She embodies both the physical light of dawn and the inner light of wisdom and knowledge that dispels the darkness of ignorance. Our pashminas are a symbol of this light, expressed through the careful selection of wool and the loving craftsmanship. They embody the joy and appreciation of this light and serve their wearer as a protective companion.
The Brand
Mārīci was founded in 2024 by me, Theresa, inspired by my childhood memories of snuggling into my mother's soft pashminas on cold days. My grandmother's carefully curated pashmina collection, amassed on her travels, particularly impressed me with its timeless quality. During a trip to India in search of the finest and lightest pashmina, I realized how essential traditional craftsmanship and the use of high-quality materials remain today. Fascinated by the dedication that goes into every classic pashmina shawl, I decided to give this timeless accessory the appreciation it deserves in Europe. In collaboration with small, experienced producers, we create pashmina shawls using traditional handcraft techniques, a knowledge passed down from generation to generation for millennia. Driven by the pursuit of individuality, beauty and uniqueness, we are committed to restoring the recognition that Pashmina wool deserves as sustainable cashmere and the craftsmanship it represents in an increasingly forgotten world.
